The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) said on Wednesday that it had inaugurated N457.3 million Mosan Okunola mini water works, located at Abesan, Alimosho Local Government Area.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Oluwaferanmi Akinmeluye, the Controller, Media Affairs, and made available to newsmen in Lagos. According to the statement, the Commissioner for Housing, Mrs Aramide Giwanson, inaugurated the water works on behalf of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode. “This mini-waterworks has the capacity to meet the needs of residents of Abesan, Baruwa and other neighbouring communities. “It has a five kilometre reticulation pipe networks. “It is characterised by a huge volumetric head advantage, resulting from gravitational fall of water from an overhead tank with a capacity for 50,000 gallons at a height of 18 meters,’’ it said. The statement said the contract for the construction of the waterworks was awarded in May 2009 to Messrs Eldorado Nigeria Ltd. at the cost of N457, 363,149.50 by the state government. It quoted the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, as urging the residents to ensure that the waterworks was protected from vandals to prevent government’s huge investment from going down the drain.
